Gum diseases, known as periodontology in medical language; It is the branch of science in which the supporting tissues that hold the tooth are treated for their diseases. Gum diseases are inflammatory diseases that affect the tissues of the teeth and gums. These diseases, which can be treated successfully and easily when diagnosed at an early stage, are a disease that affects the majority of our society today. Symptoms of gum disease; bleeding of the gums, swollen, red and sensitive gums, receding gums that can be easily separated from the teeth, inflammation between the gums, loose in teeth, constant bad breath. In addition to brushing teeth with the right techniques at least twice a day to prevent gum disease, a visit to the dentist every six months is required. Bacterial plaques; It combines with the sugars in the food we eat and causes the formation of acid. This acid weakens the enamel over time and causes tooth decay.

A healthy gum is slightly rough, like an orange peel, with a pink appearance in a smooth line with the border. A healthy gum does not bleed during eating or tooth brushing. Bleeding may not cause much discomfort in the early period. But if left untreated, the disease can progress to periodontitis, causing irreparable damage to the gums and alveolar bone that supports the teeth.

When teeth are not cleaned properly, they produce bacteria through the accumulation of food debris on the tooth and between them. When these bacterial plaques are not removed, they harden and form deposits known as tartar or scales. During brushing or using dental floss, dental plaque is removed from the mouth. Toxic substances produced by bacteria contained in plaque damage the gums, destroying the supporting tissues located around the gums, and more bacterial plaque accumulates on the teeth. Scales causes bacterial plaques that cause gum disease to accumulate more easily on the teeth. Therefore, cleaning tartar is not harmful. On the contrary, cleaning tartar prevents the progression of gum disease.

To keep your teeth in your mouth, you can prevent periodontal diseases by doing dental care such as dental floss and tooth brushing. The scaling cleaning to be done by the dentist ensures that the hardened calculus in the areas that you cannot clean with dental floss and toothbrush is removed from your teeth. Periodontal diseases affect individuals of all age groups. However, it is more common in adults. Even in teeth with no caries, only teeth can be saved due to this disease. Since it is a painless problem, it can be noticed late by the patient. You can get advice about oral health products by visiting your dentist frequently.

Gum diseases; Since it does not heal with treatment methods such as mouthwash, vitamins and antibiotics, it must be intervened by a gum specialist. During the initial treatment, local factors that cause bacterial attachment should be removed, such as renewing bad and overflowing fillings, correcting dentures that are not compatible with the gingival margin and incorrect shape, and filling carious teeth. After periodontal treatment, patients should regularly go for dental examinations. Plaque control and intervention if there is new tartar formation are necessary.
